Virginia Coastal Resilience Master Plan (CRMP) Riverine Flood Extent for 1% Annual Exceedance Probability (AEP) event in the baseline planning scenario.

Riverine flooding occurs when a river or stream overflows its banks and inundates the surrounding area. This dataset depicts the geographic area likely to be inundated by a major (1% AEP) riverine flood event. Areas within this 1% AEP extent have a 1-in-100 chance, or greater, of experiencing flooding in any given year, based on statistical analysis and modeling of historical events. The raster data has a 10-foot resolution scale.

This dataset contains information for the baseline planning scenario, meaning it is based on historical, observed data. This data is suitable for understanding current conditions and does not incorporate anticipated future conditions.

The CRMP’s riverine flood data is sourced from the best available flood modeling from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
